History of the Linton: Built in 1907, the iconic Linton
Apartments was designed in a Beaux-Arts architecture style
by renowned Montreal architects Samuel Arnold Finley and
David Jerome Spence. At the time of construction, it was
the tallest building in the city and is now one of its
prized heritage buildings. The Linton was and still remains
a prestigious and sought after address for affluent
Montrealers and was one of the first in the city to have
modern amenities such as an elevator, central heating,
electric doorbells and a telephone switchboard.
More recently (2011 to present): The building has undergone
major restoration, repair and updates since 2011. Major
improvements in the last 5 years include: Addition of
infrastructure for installation of central or wall mounted
air-conditioning in the units that are in conformity with
city by-laws; Installation of a gym on main level; Creation
of beautifully appointed roof terrace; updates to hallways
(lighting, painting). The elevator has been modified in
2023 to create direct access to the roof terrace. New
support system 2023 of swing stages to allow for window
washing and to facilitate structural inspection of external
facade as required by Montreal by-laws.
Improvements by current owner (2021):
- Upgraded the toilet in the master bathroom to a Ressa
smart toilet (Batimat)
